Placecast serves up 'mobile location in a box'

New LocalBox offering aggregates location data for operators, handset makers and app developers

Placecast has unveiled LocalBox, a plugin that it says allows 'integration of monetisation, social media and venue information into any mobile operating system or app at scale.'

What that means in simple terms is that the software aggregates point-of-interest data from multiple sources (the so-called 'location data crosswalk'), cleans up duplicates and erroneous listings, and consolidates them into a single, correct location.

This means that operators, handset manufacturers and app developers can add location-based information from any source into a mobile OS or SDK with 'the flick of a switch'.

Placecast says it will offer LocalBox, which is currently in private beta, as a B2B white label toolset that companies can deploy without writing any new code.

Alistair Goodman, CEO of Placecast, said: “Because location data is often incorrect and location data services all use different referencing schemes, it’s difficult to relate them all correctly to a single place, which gets in the way of making money. LocalBox solves those issues and lets partners focus on creativity, utility and monetisation."
