The darling of the social sharing world makes two rather important strides into the mobile sphere.

After huge demand, Pinterest has finally released official apps for the iPad and Android devices.

Pinterest is an online scrapbook where users can "pin" images and share them with others, and boasted 23 million active users in July.

The official app looks a lot like the website, with a toledo homepage displaying friends' pins and providing the ability to search, like, re-pin and add original pins.

The company has also released a redesigned version of its year-old iPhone app.

Last week Pinterest opened its online service to the general public, ending a multi-year period in which users who signed up had to wait to be admitted by the company.

There has recently been speculation that Apple is interested in buying Pinterest rival, The Fancy.

The apps are available for download at apps.pinterest.com
