People hate the word 'sexting'

People hate the word 'sexting'

You know you don't want it, you little minx.

Sexting won out in the the first annual "Unspeakable" Award, given by Computeractive magazine to the "new, technology-related word most likely to make you wince, grimace or want to bang your head on the keyboard".

It got 24 per cent of the votes ahead of:

• Intexticated ("unable to concentrate while driving due to being distracted by texting")
• Defriend ("To remove someone from one’s list of friends on social networking site.")
• Twittersphere ("the collective noun for all Tweets on Twitter")

If you don't know what sexting is, well, you should get out more. But for the record, it's "the sending of sexually explicit photographs or messages by mobile phone".

It works especially well on a cheap pre-pay 'shag phone' ME has been informed.

Paul Allen, editor of Computeractive, hates these words he calls Techlish, and says they spread fast because of the web.

It's all a bit hysterical really. Surely tech words proclaim the ingenuity of people and the flexibility of the English language?

A word like CrackBerry – well, it just just works.

Anyhow, here are the most-hated...

1.      Sexting 24%
2.      Intexticated    13%
3.      Defriend        8%
4.      Twittersphere   7%
5.      Tweetup 6%
6.      Hacktivist      5%
7.      Clickjacking    4%
8.=     Twitpic 3%
8.=     Scareware       3%
8.=     Dot-bomb        3%
