PayDragon payment app hits LA

PayDragon payment app hits LA

Uses QR code scanning to speed up high street shopping - and beat the queues.

PayDragon was trialled at the 2012 South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, but it's now targeting LA restaurants, food trucks and customers in a live roll out.

Participating merchants include Beard Papa, The Bun Truck, CambalaCHE's, Auntie's Fry Bread, Chunk n Chip, The Grill Sergeant, The Wien, and Rounds Premium Burgers.

Here's how it works: after downloading the iPhone or Android app, users enter their billing preferences and can scan, browse, discover, select and purchase items from participating businesses.

Once an order is placed, they wait to be notified that your item is ready and then collect it

Other features of the product include a gamification layer, Facebook integration, receipts for transactions and notifications.

"We've been on the front lines, developing QR and m-commerce technology, and have seen consumers increasingly embrace interaction with brands, products and transactions on their smartphones," said Hamilton Chan, founder and CEO of PayDragon

"This experience has enabled us to create a mobile payment app that people really want to use and is drop-dead easy. PayDragon lets users easily pull up and navigate food truck menus, shop for items, and discover local deals and vendors. Likewise, merchants can more easily fulfill orders and get goods to their customers. Everyone wins."

Although not identical, PayDragon is similar to Square's Card Case and the recently launched GoPago in its desire to use mobile to avoid queuing in stores.
