Pandora raises $35m in new funding round

Streaming music service Pandora has raised a reported $35m just days after new US royalty rates were announced.

Greylock Ventures led the new round, and its partner David Size has joined Pandora's board of directors.

The company hasn't officially confirmed the $35 million figure, but if true, it would more than double the $29 million previously invested in Pandora.

The announcement comes just days after new US royalty rates for online radio were announced, and hailed by Pandora founder Tim Westergren as securing the company's future.

Pandora will now pay royalty collection body SoundExchange either 25% of its annual revenues, or a fee for every song it streams - whichever is the higher.

Much of the company's current growth is coming from its iPhone application, which in May was signing up 18-20,000 new users a day, according to Westergren.
