US streaming music service preparing the way for multi-platform future.

US personalised radio service Pandora now has more than 100 million registered users, with 36 million of them classed as monthly active users.

The company announced the milestone yesterday at its first analyst day since its IPO. CEO Joe Kennedy claimed at the event that Pandora now accounts for 3.6% of all radio listening in the US, up from 2.3% at the end of 2010.

The news came as Pandora unveiled a redesign for its web service, ditching Flash in favour of HTML5. TechCrunch has a long walkthrough of the new site, and is told by CTO Tom Conrad that the change has been made with an eye towards the multi-device future.

"HTML5 is the only technology that has a shot at being a ubquitous solution across a wide range of computing experiences — tablets, TV, automobiles, etc." says Conrad. "I’m not ready to predict our answer for things like tablets will be HTML5 down the road. But it’s nice to have the infrastructure in place."

Social features are now more central to Pandora too, including Facebook but also a Music Feed feature to show what tracks a user's friends have been listening to on the service.
