Panasonic to re-enter Euro mobile market

Unveils the ELUGA phone, and aims to sell 1.5m in the year to March 2013.

What's with the sudden Japanese invasion? Earlier today it emerged Fujitsu will take a shot at Europe for the first time, and now Panasonic is ready for a fresh assault.

The firm’s European CEO, Laurent Abadie said at Panasonic’s annual convention in Hamburg said he wants 1.5m sales by March next year as part of a 15 million unit global biz by end of March 2016.

It all starts with the ELUGA, a skinny 103 gram Android smartphone that contains NFC technology and the ‘Swipe and Share’ technology that works with the company’s range of VIERA televisions.

It's very curvy and it's waterproof too.

The device will also feature ‘eco mode’, Panasonic's power-saving technology, which provides environmental benefit by shutting down non-essential features when the phone is running low on battery power.

Apparently ELUGA derives from the phrase ‘elegant user-oriented gateway’.

The phone sounds more elegant than the acronym.
