Palm could sell 623k Pres by August

Reuters poll finds analysts in bullish mood ahead of June 6th launch.

Analysts are expecting the Palm Pre to be a hit among consumers, with a Reuters poll of five expecting the company to sell 623,000 units between the June 6th launch (with Sprint in the US) and the end of the company's fiscal Q1 (August 31st).

As the article points out, that's a tiny figure compared to the 6.9 million iPhone 3Gs Apple sold in the three month's following that device's July 2008 launch.

However, it's still pretty impressive considering Palm as a whole sold just 482,000 handsets in its Q3.

It's a huge summer in the smartphone space, with Nokia's N97 set to debut on June 19th, and Apple expected to detail new iterations of the iPhone at the WWDC event on June 8th.
