Ozura World revives SMS greeting cards idea

Launching Let’s Greet in Malaysia next week.

The firm says SMS remains the most democratic of all messaging medium but have faced strong competition from IM and MMS.

So it's given SMS an overhaul to make the medium more customisable and rich, and therefore more attractive as a means of sending greetings.

Lets Greet is an Android app that let user select a range of colourful cards with the option to personalise the message, and send these cards at the cost of an SMS.

Though just on Android, messages can be sent to any phone.

Other features include scheduling SMS Greetings to be sent at a certain time, by subscribing to Lets Greet.me at RM2 per week.

Mike Pearse, CEO of Ozuraworld, said: “Digital greeting cards are personalised to cater to the needs of everyone in Malaysia. We’re hoping to bring a new way for Malaysians to communicate with their peers and loved ones.

"Currently, only Android users are capable of sending the Greeting Cards, but we’re looking to broadening this product into other mobile platforms soon."

Should be interesting to see how this progresses. These kinds of rich text services have been tried numerous times in Europe by firms like Funtext without huge success, and are still being tweaked by firms like Jeego.
