Ovi Store gets re-downloading feature

"Think of it as content insurance" says Nokia.

Nokia has confirmed that it is now letting users of its Ovi Store re-download premium apps and content that they have purchased in the past.

The company has explained the rationale for the feature in a blog post:

"As with any digital content, there is the risk of loss or breakage. Was the file downloaded properly? Did you lose your network connection while downloading? Was the content accidentally deleted? Did a software update render the content incompatible? Did you reset your device? All of these events can occur..."

Many of them have occured with Ovi Store, as grumbling users would attest. The feature will be a welcome addition to the store, bringing it into line with iPhone's App Store.

Ovi Store's re-downloading requires version 1.5(387) or higher of the store's S60 client, or version 1.6.1 of the S40 client - users will need to upgrade if they haven't already.
