Ovi Store daily downloads pass 9m

Activity still rising despite imminent move to WinPho.

Nokia's app store will be phased out (well, the name will) in the new era but for the time being the downloads are still on the up.

The store passed 7m downloads a day one month ago, and 5m in April.

Estimates put the total downloads since the Ovi Store's launch in 2009 to be around 2.1 billion. That compares with 13 billion for Apple and 6 billion for Android.

In the past Nokia has taken some stick for including all kinds of content (ringtone et al) in the figures rather than purely apps.

But whatever the rights and wrongs of that, there's no denying the ongoing growth in a store that is ostensibly the home for apps based on feature phones running an increasingly marginalised OS (Symbian).
