Android-powered machine has the biggest ever Kickstarter launch day.

When we first mentioned the $99 Ouya console last week, it seemed destined to move beyond concept stage fairly swiftly.

No one, however, could have anticipated just how quickly the open source Android-based device would take off when it was placed on Kickstarter.

Just 12 hours after being placed on the crowd funding site, it had reached its $950,000 goal. By the end of the first day the project had raised $2m and at the time of writing it is soaring towards the $3m mark with more than 20,000 backers.

Now, in an email to those backers, the project founders have asked for feedback on its 'stretch goals' – basically "what shall we do if we keep making this much cash?"

Ouya still has 28 days left, in which time it may well become the largest funded Kickstarter of all time, beating the Pebble Watch which raised $10,266,845.
