Orange plugs RockCorps with social remix app

We suppose a user-generated RockCorps campaign is out of the question... Oh, it isn't!

Orange UK is promoting its RockCorps music initiative with a new social remixing app that gets users to sing their own vocals to popular tracks.

The app - the web kind, not mobile - has been created by digital agency Poke, and will be updated every month with new songs to sing along to.

Facebook also ties in, with users able to collaborate with their friends for even more (or less) tuneful results. Orange is hoping the social media campaign will spark more awareness of its RockCorps initiative, which rewards community volunteers with concert tickets.

The latest RockCorps gig is happening tonight at London's Royal Albert Hall, where 5,000 volunteers will also get USB wrist-bands with music tracks, backstage footage and information about the new application.
Orange says that overall, 8,000 people volunteered for RockCorps this year, signing up to do four hours' community service.

We wonder if the app oughtn't to have been launched at the start of this year's campaign to help increase that number of volunteers, but it's a good cause, so it's good to see Orange using social media to extend its lifespan.
