You don't have to go to an Orange shop to get an iPhone in France, but you do need more money.
The music and electronics giant FNAC is now offering a sim-free unlocked 8GB iPhone for €799 - €50 more than Orange, which sold devices for €649 plus €100 to have them unlocked. Once the cost of a subscription is factored in the overall price is well over €1,000.Orange launched the iPhone exclusively earlier this year, but law makers soon pounced on its deal with Apple as anti-competitive and allowed rivals to sell the device. The big question now is whether Orange's operator rivals will pile in, and whether they will subsidise the phone as well.
