Orange launches 'affordable' Facebook phones

Devices set to hit Europe and Africa in Q4.

Phone network Orange is set to release three ‘social’ devices, which each come with a specific 'F' button to allow immediate uploads and interaction.

The devices, which include the Android-powered Alcatel One Touch 908F, will retail for under €100.

Handsets are to come with varying 'affordable' bundles and tariffs that provide unlimited Facebook use with no extra charges.

Orange claims the move into the European and African markets comes in an attempt to boost digital adoption and increase service users by introducing some to Facebook for the first time.

Yves Maitre, senior VP of mobile multimedia and devices, Orange, said: "The rise of the smartphone and the explosion of social networks have completely changed how people keep in touch and share content. Until now many consumers across Africa and Europe have not had access to a phone that offers deep Facebook integration at an affordable price.

"We feel strongly that it is Orange's role to enable customers to enjoy a digitally rich, connected life and this and future work with Facebook and Alcatel One Touch will allow us to open up mobile social media access to even more of our customers."

The phone range will reach more than 15 countries by the end of 2011 and more locations are set for launch in 2012.
