And it's a first, of sorts.
According to the press release, Orange is the "first operator to give customers one-click access to Google Mobile App on multiple mobile platforms in addition to a search widget on the Android mobile platform".
We'd clap them on the back as congratulation, if we weren't out of breath from just reading that sentence.
But seriously, Orange is the first European operator to whack Google's mobile application on the homescreen of its handsets, meaning its customers are just a click away from the search engine - and in time other services like Google News, Google Maps and Gmail too.
The app will be embedded in Orange's Signature range of handsets, and will tie into the operator's own mobile portal and services too. In the UK and France, that means searching will bring back results from both the wider mobile web, and Orange's portal.
Orange says it will later make the app available on its range of Symbian, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smartphones.

"Partnering with Orange is a great opportunity for us to provide their customers across Europe with instant access to the web," says Google VP of engineering Vic Gundotra.
It'll be interesting to see how the combined approach works. Orange gives the example of searching for football news - in France, results will come back from Orange's Ligue 1 content, as well as from independent news sites.
