Orange forms partnership with Wikipedia

Customers in France, UK, Spain and Poland given access to co-branded Wiki/Orange content.

The agreement will see Orange creating specific Wikipedia channels on its mobile and web portals, enriching these portals with links to relevant Wikipedia information and developing mobile and web-based widgets for quick access to Wikipedia content.

Phase two of the agreement will see the two organisations cooperate to create new services based around Orange's triple play offering in mobile, TV and web. The activity will also be rolled out across the rest of Orange’s European footprint.

Paul-François Fournier, EVP of Orange's Audience Line of Business, said: “At Orange we are committed to giving people maximum access to the widest range of digital technologies and to simplifying the way people use these technologies to access information. By bringing our customers a new way to access content from Wikipedia, we are delivering on this commitment.”

Wikipedia is a not-for-profit online encyclopedia run by the Wikimedia Foundation. It receives more than 300 million unique visitors per month, making them the fourth most popular web property. It contains more than 12 million articles contributed by a global volunteer community of more than 100,000 people.
