Popular mobile browser is, well, popular.
Mobile site GetJar has announced that the Opera Mini mobile browser has now been downloaded more than 25 million times from its store.
The company claims that makes Opera's browser "the most downloaded app ever from any open app store to date" - an achievement which possibly depends on how you define
GetJar says that the latest version of Opera Mini - v4.2 - has been downloaded nearly 7.5 million times since the beginning of this year. It's available for Java, Android BREW, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile phones.
"The fact that Opera Mini is the most downloaded app ever on an open app store like GetJar makes us proud because it proves that our vision of providing a browser that works on almost all phones will give millions a better way to access the Web," says Opera Software chief strategy officer Rolf Assev (pictured).
Meanwhile, GetJar boss Ilja Laurs says Opera Mini's success is a good sign for the store. "The tremendous downloads of Opera Mini on GetJar proves that global accessibility to consumers is the key to success for application developers of all kinds."
