And strong growth over the holiday period across iOS and Android.

More than five million iOS and Android games featuring the OpenFeint platform were downloaded over the four-day Christmas holiday, the company hs announced.

It added 450,000 new users on Christmas Day alone - the largest day in its history, and up 184% on its daily average. Over the four days, OpenFeint signed up 1.4 million new users.

"We always expect a spike in downloads over the holidays as more people put games on new mobile devices,” says CEO Jason Citron.

"This year showed an impressive increase as our user acquisition increased almost twofold around Christmas. New devices and free time make for more mobile gaming over the holidays."

Downloads of OpenFeint-powered iOS games were up 187% over Christmas, while Android titles were up 73% - both compared to their daily averages.

OpenFeint ended the year with 55 million players in its community.
