OpenFeint has doubled its community since Game Center launch

OpenFeint has doubled its community since Game Center launch

Says developers don't see the two platforms as competing with one another.

Social mobile games platform firm OpenFeint says it now has more than 50 million registered users, having doubled in size since the launch of Apple's Game Center earlier this year.

Wait, what? Wasn't Game Center supposed to kill platforms like OpenFeint off, or at least make them flee to Android and other smartphones?

Not according to the company. "Since Game Center launched, we've added over four million players every month," says CEO Jason Citron.

"Even more amazing, our players have activated OpenFeint in over 125 million game downloads during the last seven months."

OpenFeint now has more than 14,000 registered developers, and has added more than 2,100 games to its network since April.

The message that the company is sending out with these stats is that Game Center is fuelling its growth, rather than squashing it.

OpenFeint says that more than 300 developers are using both platforms, citing Fishlabs' Galaxy On Fire 2 as an example.

OpenFeint's selling point is a mixture of features that sit on top of Game Center - like action replays and 'network save cards' - and its promotion network.
