And among teens it's over half.
A study by Lexar Media of 3,000 phone users found 34 per cent of Germans, 31 per cent of Brits and 25 per cent of French now more commonly use their camera phones than their digital cameras for picture-taking. With teens, the figures were as high as 61 per cent (for the UK).
Meanwhile photo-taking was cited as the primary reason for running out of mobile phone memory. Despite this, the survey revealed that most people (UK 79 per cent, France 74 per cent, and Germany 56 per cent) do not know how much memory is in their phone and the majority have never purchased more memory for their device.
“This survey tells us that while there are ever more feature-rich mobile devices out there, they are not being optimised with additional memory and therefore failing to meet the end-user’s high expectations,” said Saul Matthews, EMEA marketing director at Lexar Media.
Lexar has just launched a High-Speed Mobile microSDHC card in 8GB and 16GB capacities.
