Reaches milestone quicker than iPhone.
Apple said it reached one million sales on Friday, and added that iPad hit its target more than twice as fast as its iconic phone.
The firm also began selling the 3G model of the iPad over the weekend in the US. This version can access AT&T's cellular network, whereas the first models had only Wi-Fi access. The Wi-Fi-only models start at $499, and the 3G models at $629.
"One million iPads in 28 days — that's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
The iPad went on sale in the US on April 3rd. The international launch has been delayed such is domestic demand, but Apple says overseas buyers can start ordering on May 10th.
