One check-in every second for opened-up Foursquare

Usage takes off as version 1.5 makes its debut.

Saturday was the busiest day ever for social location app Foursquare, according to the company's official Twitter feed.

Here's the relevant tweet:



"Yesterday was our Biggest Day Ever™ We've been averaging *more than a checkin per second* over past 24 hrs. This is amazing - thanks all!"

TechCrunch does the maths, and calculates that this means Foursquare notched up 86,000 check-ins - people notifying the app that they're at a specific location - on Saturday.

caused the spike? The app has just opened up, letting people check-in anywhere, rather than just in a set list of supported cities.

Meanwhile, Foursquare has also updated its iPhone app to version 1.5, which implements the new changes, as well as some other tweaks to the interface and workings.
