O2 to offer iPhone 3G for free

UK operator will offer iPhone 3G for free with certain contracts. It will also offer the device to PAYG customers.

O2 will begin selling iPhone 3G on July 11th at a significantly lower unit and monthly cost than the previous incarnation of the device.

The 8GB 3G model will cost £99 on both a new £30/month tariff and the existing £35/month tariff. The device will be free on the £45 and £75 a month tariffs.

Meanwhile, the 16GB iPhone 3G will cost £159 on the £30/35 a month tariffs, £59 on the £45/month tariff and free on the £75/month tariff.

O2 says it will confirm pricing for Pay & Go pricing in the coming weeks.

The operator says its existing iPhone customers will be able to upgrade to the new device.
