O2 switches on Glasgow subway 3G coverage

Customers able to use their phones underground for the first time.

O2 has added 3G coverage to Glasgow's subway train system, meaning commuters in the Scottish city can make calls and surf the web while traveling around.

Buchanan Street, St Enoch, Partick, Hillhead and Govan - the five busiest subway stations on the line - have been given network coverage, with O2 giving away 2,000 free tickets to raise awareness.

The scheme has been developed by O2 in partnership with transmission provider Arqiva and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).

Customers will be able to use 2G and 3G services, including making voice calls, sending text messages, content downloads, internet access and MMS.

O2 first announced the plans back in September, leading to speculation that the London Underground could be next in line for some mobile treatment.
