Google waved bye-bye.
Yahoo has announced a new multi-year mobile search deal with O2 Germany, which involves providing search for the operator's mobile portals, and getting more on-deck prominence for its range of mobile services.
Yahoo says that it's displacing Google as O2's preferred mobile search partner with the deal. Besides regular search listings, Yahoo will also be handling sponsored search results on-portal for O2.
Meanwhile, Yahoo's new mobile homepage, as well as its mail, news, weather, finance and Flickr photo services will be plugged on O2's portals.
The deal isn't a huge surprise, given that Yahoo partnered with O2's parent company telefonica back in 2007 on a deal based around its oneSearch service.
Yahoo says the partnership is further proof that it's "solidifying" its role as the preferred mobile search partner of operators worldwide.

However, you could argue that Google is deriving more benefit nowadays from the rollout of its Android smartphone OS with its handset and operator partners globally.
