O2 confirms PAYG iPhone prices

16GB version available for £399.99 SIM-free, with 8GB tagged at £349.99.

O2 has confirmed a rather expensive iPhone 3G pay-as-you-go pricing scheme - the first time Apple's device has been made available SIM-free in the UK.

From September 16th the iPhone 3G 16GB will be available without a contract for £399.99, with the 8GB model priced at £349.99.

Owners will have unlimited wi-fi and 3G internet access for the first year - just like O2's contract iPhone customers - but will have to pay £10 a month thereafter for continued use.

In comparison, for contract customers the 8GB iPhone in free on O2's £45 and £75 tariffs and £99 on its £35 and £30 tariffs.

The16GB version is free on its £75 tariff, £59 on the £45 tariff and £159 on the £30 and £35 tariffs.
