Nuance makes $20m Zi bid

Offer for predictive text pioneer half of what was on the table three months ago.

Mobile voice recognition specialist Nuance Communications has offered Zi Coproration shareholders $20 million to buy the business (representing a 20 per cent premium on its share price).

Canada-based Zi, which made its name with EZiText predictive text software, rejected Nuance's original $40 million offer back in August.

Most recently Zi has expanded into areas like on-device content discovery and mobile advertising.

Nuance said it hopes Zi shareholders "will recognize the immediate value and attractive liquidity opportunity this proposal represents and will tender their shares in favor of our offer".

The deal will be on the table until December 31st.
