Japanese operator NTT Docomo has announced ten million people are now subscribed to its Xi (pronounced 'crossy') LTE mobile service, which it claims is capable of reaching download speeds of 100 Mbps.
Japanese LTE users consume 67 per cent more data than 3G users, which may cause a decline in fixed wi-fi consumption. Indeed, it's clear there's a hunger for the spectrum in the region, with NTT boasting just 2m Xi users in March 2012.
The network offers customers 32 compatible smartphones and six tablets, while there are 666 LTE-enabled devices available on the entire market. It says 112.5 Mbps speeds will be available in 50 cities by June, while it will continue to increase speeds and the number of Xi devices on offer.
