Nook set for UK launch in 'not too distant future'

Barnes & Noble to find British partner or launch independently?

The US bookstore launched its Nook e-reader in America just over two years ago and has since gone on to release additional models. One of which, includes the Nook Tablet that was launched to rival the Kindle Fire.

Speaking in the UK, Theresa Horner, VP for digital content, B&N, said: "Our focus originally was very much on providing a successful platform in the US to work from, before taking our product overseas . . . We are working a lot more closely [on that], and I imagine that in the not too distant future you'll be able to find one of these devices here."

It's unclear whether Barnes & Noble will embark on the launch on its own or whether it will partner with an existing British franchise such as Waterstone's, which wouldn't be entirely out of the question.

In September, we reported Waterstone's expressing its interest at launching its own e-reader device in 2012, with the goal of making it better than Amazon's Kindle.

If the British and American bookstores were to unite, it could provide a worthy opportunity for the firms to tackle the UK e-book market.

However, should Barnes & Noble launch its own stores, it could mean an extremely competitive market ahead.

Horner continued: "I think B&N would say that having a chain of book stores is a great asset for selling book products, and if you think creatively about selling content, there is an endless well of possibilities for doing that."

Take what you will from that statement, it could mean a pairing is on the cards or alternatively Barnes & Noble could be scouting out property for their own retail locations right now.
