NOKIA WORLD: Nokia unveils first Nseries qwerty

N97 adds a pull-out keyboard to the usual array of multimedia features.

Nokia's fond of calling its Nseries devices 'multimedia computers' and this one comes closest to justifying the term, comprising 3.5 inch touch display with a QWERTY keyboard, up to 48GB of storage (32GB on-board, 16GB microSD card), MP3 player, support for the Nokia Music Store, five megapixel camera, Carl Zeiss optics, HSDPA and wi-fi.

The handset also offers an 'always open' window to favourite social networking sites and internet destinations.

Nokia is using the N97 t usher in the concept of 'social location' using the integrated A-GPS sensors and electronic compass.

This makes it possible to update social networks automatically with real-time information, giving approved friends the ability to update their 'status' and share their 'social location' as well as related pictures or videos.

Jonas Geust, VP of Nokia Nseries, said: "The Nokia N97 mobile computer adjusts to the world around us, helping stay connected to the people and things that matter most. With the Nokia N97, Nseries leads the charge in helping to transform the Internet into your Internet".

The handset is expected to begin shipping in the first half of 2009 at an estimated retail price of 550 euros before taxes or subsidies.
