NOKIA WORLD: Maps integrated with Ovi online

New offering allows users to plan routes on PC then sync with mobile.

Nokia has released an updated version of its Maps application, including the ability to pre-plan trips online using a PC.

The 'vanilla' Nokia Maps app has been updated to include high-res aerial images, 3D landmarks for 216 cities and terrain maps, as well as a new route overview during routing and during Drive, the purchasable turn-by-turn car navigation function.

The new Nokia Maps plus Ovi online service, meanwhile, allows people to pre-plan journeys on a PC then synchronise the routes with their mobile.

Other new options for Nokia Maps include access to camera alerts, safety spots and traffic information for selected countries, as well as Wcities event guides that give real-time information for events and movies in over 450 destinations.

Nokia says the higher map quality is a direct result of the relationship it has with NAVTEQ.
