Nokia upgrades its Ovi App Wizard platform

New design, broader reach and new marketing tools.

Nokia has announced a series of improvements to its Ovi App Wizard platform, which makes it easy for brands, publishers and individuals to launch apps on its Ovi Store.

The Wizard was launched earlier this year in a basic form, but now has several new features.

They include a new design, which will provide all new and existing apps created using the tool with a new look. Existing apps have been automatically updated in the Ovi Store with the new design.

Meanwhile, Ovi App Wizard now supports more smartphones, including the upcoming N8. Nokia says apps created using the Wizard now work on more than 100 Nokia phones.

Meanwhile, Nokia has added additional language support, including Spanish, Italian and Russian, and launched new marketing tools to help Ovi App Wizard users promote their apps.

The latter are interesting, accessed via a new 'Promote' link next to apps in the Ovi App Wizard dashboard.

They allow users to create personalised banners in a range of shapes and sizes to promote their apps, which can then be downloaded for use on web and mobile websites, or shared on Facebook.

A 'Buy Media' button also takes users to RingRing Media's site, to submit campaign requirements to place the mobile banners on commercial sites.

By way of an example, here's one for my personal app:

It's not just tech journalists using Ovi App Wizard though: brands using the tool include National Geographic, WWF, The Travel Channel, and the World Series of Poker.
