Reports this morning suggest Nokia could develop handsets based on the Microsoft OS.
IT Wire says Microsoft’s mobile communications business international marketing director John Starkweather confirmed talks were taking place with Nokia but would not confirm when any announcement would be made.He said: "[Nokia] obviously have significant investments in Symbian but there are a lot of places where we have significant synergies and we would love to see the day where those synergies would extend completely with Windows Mobile.
"We work closely with Nokia and we would love to have them go all the way. It’s something we talk about all the time."
Though there's no way Nokia would divert from its Symbian/Series60 smartphone roadmaps, it wouldn't be surprising to it dabble with Windows as it already integrates Microsoft's DRM and other software.
With other manufacturers like Samsung and HTC also making hay with Windows devices, any collaboration could be seen as a strategic defensive move by Nokia.
