Investments in fewer initiatives and more scope for third party software integration; 450 jobs affected.
Nokia has refocused its Services strategy to align more closely with third party solutions, with investment in fewer initiatives going forward.
The company says the changes, which include making all its games content (Java, N-Gage, etc) available through the Ovi Store as well as existing dedicated channels, will result in a more simplified user experience across its services.
In addition, Nokia will add third party image and social networking sites to the image capture and sharing features on its devices.
Earlier this month the Services division (i.e. Ovi and other content offerings) posted 1Q09 net sales up 79 per cent YoY to 150 million euros, albeit from a tiny base. The Ovi Store is due to launch in May.
The company says the above changes, combined with a separate downsizing of its internal IT and Compatibility & Industry Collaboration activities in the Corporate Development Office unit, will affect 450 employees globally.
