N97 users won't have an excuse for forgetting their friends' special days.
Nokia is to launch an exclusive Facebook birthday application for its N97 smartphone, as it ramps up the promotion of its Ovi Store in the UK.
Called Facebook Birthday, the application has been developed by Nokia, using the Facebook Connect for Mobile Web tools that were unveiled at its recent Nokia World conference.
The app takes a feed from Facebook and sends a reminder to users' mobiles two days before their friends' birthdays. It also lets them send customised Nokia birthday cards.
The app is due to go live in the next ten days for the N97 in the Ovi Store. Although this app is exclusive to Nokia, it is not the only handset firm looking to use Facebook data in this way.
The most recent version of the BlackBerry Facebook app, for example, lets users import their friends' birthdays into their BlackBerry calendar.

Meanwhile, Facebook itself has an option for users to set up automatic email alerts whenever a friend has a birthday coming up.
Still, Facebook Birthday shows Nokia's determination to help seed Ovi Store with exclusive apps that aren't available elsewhere.
To that end, it also has two other N97 exclusives ready to launch.
Pets Like You lets users take a photo of themselves or any person, and find out which animal they most look like. Newton's Cradle, meanwhile, is a virtual version of the classic ball-clacking stress toy.
