Nokia to 'Design by Community'

Handset maker asks users to help it create a 'smartphone concept device of the future'

Nokia has unveiled its Design by Community project, which it is describing as an 'engrossing and compelling exercise in creative thinking and design collaboration'.

The company is providing readers of its Conversations blog with a series of design widgets that will enable them to tweak various core elements of handset design, UI and functionality.

Then throughout May readers will get to vote for their favourite design sketches of the smartphone concept based on the widget submissions.

The final smartphone concept will be brought to life by the Nokia Design team, who will build a 3D computer render of the device, based on the collective design choices.

Nokia stresses that the project is an intellectual and fun exercise only - it isn't intending on manufacturing the phone for real.
