Refreshingly honest MIPCOM speech from Nokia France's Cedric Thomas.
You might think that if you asked Nokia's advice on which app store to support, the answer would be simply 'Ovi Store'.
However, that's not the case. Cedric Thomas, who heads Nokia's Ovi initiative in France, gave a presentation at the MIPCOM conference in Cannes this afternoon that was admirably honest.
He showed a slide outlining the best way for developers to 'Address the App Stores', which gave this idea on 'roll-out strategy':
- Apple is a must have in US and EU
- Nokia is key for Asian market (including China) and Europe
- Android is leading the US market and growing in EU
- BlackBerry strong in US

None of this is a surprise, but Thomas' honesty is refreshing, and a clear sign that Nokia has largely ditched its traditional bullishness, in favour of a more realistic appraisal of its position in the apps market.
During his presentation, Thomas also said that Ovi Store is now up to 2.5 million daily downloads - an increase on the 2.3 million figure released just a few days ago.
Thomas said that 75% of those downloads are apps and games, with games the most popular category for paid downloads, and apps the most popular for free downloads.
