Nokia has told Reuters that thousands of content providers have signed up to sell their wares through its Ovi Store, which is due to go live in May.

In a statement, Nokia said: "To date, thousands of content providers and developers from around the world have signed up, with majority coming from the US, UK, China and India."

Last week, Nokia's head of entertainment business Tero Ojanpera confirmed that high-end N-Gage games would be discoverable via the Ovi Store, but remain in a dedicated sales channel.

App store activity is reaching fever pitch - Apple is the daddy of space, but RIM confirmed its entry today, Microsoft is prepping its own Windows Marketplace effort, Google has Android Market and others are jumping in with white label offerings.
