Nokia Ovi Store generating 1.6m downloads a day

More than 9,500 content items available for the firm's most popular handsets

Nokia says its Ovi Store is now generating 1.6 million downloads a day - that's 100,000 more than at the beginning of March.

The average active user is responsible for 8.5 downloads per month, and has around 9,500 content items to choose from (if they have what Nokia calls 'one of its most popular devices').

Most active countries on the Ovi Store in alphabetical order are China (for the first time), Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UK & Vietnam.

Nokia says that this spread reflects the efforts it has made to localise Ovi Store content - 90 per cent of mobile users can now access the store in their own language.

In terms of devices, the Nokia N900 has been in the top 10 performing devices in three of the top 10 most active countries for the last several weeks.

The other important factor for uptake is billing and operator support. Nokia says over 80 per cent of mobile users can purchase from the Ovi Store using their local currency, with operator support at 66 networks in 19 countries.

In countries where mobile billing is available, over two-thirds of customers choose it as their payment method.
