Nokia NSeries: Symbian out, Maemo in

Finnish handset maker says its top-end devices will be exclusively Maemo-powered by 2012

The somewhat surprising, but also understandable and slightly foreshadowed revelation came at the London unveiling of the N900, as reported by The Really Mobile Project.

Details are sketchy, but it would seem that Nokia is planning a gradual transition, with Symbian retained beyond 2012 for X-Series, E-Series and feature phones.

By then Maemo will be used by Nokia on its high-end mass market devices within the NSeries range.
