Nokia N9 ships three months after initial unveiling

The world’s first and last MeeGo phone (probably) goes into the channel.

This is the device that Nokia unveiled in the summer – making a big deal about its swipe functionality, but saying little about the fact that it’s the only product it will ever make based on the MeeGo OS it created with Intel.

MeeGo got canned in the Stephen Elop era so that Nokia could concentrate on Symbian and WinPho.

So the N9 will be an historical anomaly. And there’s no info from Nokia about the exact features of the OS and any app support.

As for the device itself, there’s a user interface controlled with swipes to return to the phone's three separate home screens.

The individual screens contain content for apps, events and live applications, which lets users locate their favourite content.

The N9's other features include: a 3.9-inch AMOLED screen, HD 8mp camera, mobile internet radio, global map navigation for in-car and on foot and preloaded games, social networking apps.

Ilari Nurmi, marketing VP, Nokia, said: "With the innovations in industrial design, user interface, and the Qt developer experience, the Nokia N9 sets the bar for how natural technology can feel, and represents the first in a number of products from Nokia that will be brought to life in similar fashion."

The firm also reveals the smartphone comes in black, cyan and magenta with 16GB and 64GB storage options. The estimated RRP of the 16GB device is €480 and €560 for the 64GB.
