Nokia launches UK mobile app development contest

Calling All Innovators is back, touting Ovi Store contracts and cash prizes.

Nokia has kicked off a contest for UK mobile application developers, waving a £20,000 prize and Ovi Store contract for the winner.

The Calling All Innovators competition will take submissions in five categories: Social location; Business and productivity; Communications and social networking; Games; and Just for fun.

Each category winner will get £2,500, distribution of their app on Nokia's Ovi Store, and a one-yea membership to the company's Forum Nokia Launchpad scheme.

However, one of those apps will be chosen as the overall winner, which will garner a £20,000 prize and paid travel to a Nokia developer event next Spring.

"We are looking for bold ideas from talented developers who can demonstrate a real understanding of what UK consumers want from mobile content," says UK head of services Rupert Englander.

The deadline for entries is 30th November, and the winners will be announced by the end of the year. More details will be found (once it's updated) at the official Calling All Innovators website.

Nokia's last Calling All Innovators contest was held earlier this year, but was global. Nokia promised then that it would launch regional versions this Autumn - hence today's announcement, which will presumably be mirrored in countries other than the UK.
