EA is relishing a proper N-Gage roll-out, because it doesnt think it has launched yet.
The firm’s Peter Parmenter gave a refreshingly honest assessment of N-Gage’s performance to date, at the Nokia Games Summit in Rome today. He said that, for EA, N-Gage has been a soft launch so far. “Have we started yet? No.” was his blunt summation.
However, he was still positive about the promise of the service, revealing that N-Gage is available far more widely than the publisher dared dream, and that as a ‘single-SKU’ this makes the potential to hit a huge market with one hit very considerable.
He was less impressed with the margins. “We get twice the revenue from an iPhone game in Italy than we do for the same game on N-Gage.”
The certification process also got it with both barrels. “It’s easier to get an audience with the pope than get a game through the N-Gage certification process.”
