Nokia experiments with OTA phone charging

Handset maker looking to harness the power of radio waves to re-charge phone batteries.

Yep, it's sounds bizarre, but Nokia's Research Centre has already worked up some prototypes, according to a report in MIT's Technology Review.

The idea is to harness 'ambient electromagnetic radiation' from sources including cell masts, wi-fi, TV antennas, etc, and covert into enough electrical current to keep the phone battery topped up.

Early prototypes are far from being powerful enough to be useful in the real world, but Nokia says it's working on more robust solutions.
