Nokia clarifies Ovi Store certification process

Java Verified testing no longer required, as long as developers can ensure quality of app 'by other means'.

The official Series 60 blog says that Nokia is no longer requiring developers and publishers put their apps through the Java Verified submissions process before submitting them to Ovi Store.

The blog says it has confirmation from Ovi Store staff that Java verified is now only recommendation, rather than manadatory.

It writes, in relation to JV: "If developers have other means to ensure the quality on different Nokia handsets then it’s totally acceptable to not to use it."

It points out, however, that developers are still required to sign their content using Verisign or Thawte.
