Finnish giant launches affordable multimedia handsets and internet services for the developing world.
Nokia is pushing the low-cost 7100 Supernova multimedia handset into emerging markets, backed by a suite of Ovi content services and a new educational Life Tools offering.The 7100 - one of seven devices confirmed by Nokia today as part of the drive - comes with support for Share on Ovi, the company's online photo sharing service, Mail on Ovi and a web browser.
It will begin shipping before Christmas with an estimated retail price of 75 euros. Six other devices showcased today include the 5130 XpressMusic, 2320 Classic, 2323 Classic, 2330 Classic, 1202 and 1661.
In terms of content, Nokia Life Tools is a range of agriculture information and education services designed for rural and small town communities in emerging markets.
Life Tools uses an icon-based user interface that can display information simultaneously in two languages. SMS is used to deliver the content so GPRS coverage and fiddly settings aren't required.

Nokia plans to launch the service in the first half of 2009 with the Nokia 2323 classic and the Nokia 2330 classic as the lead devices in India. The initiative will expand across select countries in Asia and Africa later in 2009.
