Nokia and Microsoft pay for Goal.com app

World’s largest football website to become an app for Windows Phone and Symbian.

Goal.com attracts 21.6 million users online and an additional 48 million page views across mobile. Footy fans are enticed by video, live scores, match details, results, news and imagery for all major global club and international football tournaments and leagues.

Now, the firm behind the site, PERFORM, is working with Nokia and Microsoft to make its app free to users of Nokia Store and Microsoft’s Marketplace.

It will come in 13 different language editions including English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Indonesian, Turkish, Korean, Chinese and Arabic.

According to PaidContent, Nokia and Microsoft are to fund development of the app, a version of which has already been made for iOS and Android by Handmark.

Daryn Wober, MD of mobile at PERFORM, said: “This marks a very significant partnership for PERFORM. Goal.com provides a unique offering given the breadth of coverage and quality of content and by partnering with Nokia and Microsoft we are opening Goal up to millions of smartphone users, and ultimately providing exciting opportunities for brands to engage with these global mobile audiences.”
