Games giant confirms Euro launch plans, wireless features and entertainment deals for its new handheld
Nintendo has announced the European launch date for its new 3DS handheld. The device will go on sale on 25 March, and its focus will be beyond gaming.
"Nintendo 3DS is not just about being able to watch and play in 3D without glasses – it also offers unique social experiences," says Nintendo of Europe's Laurent Fischer.
Non-games deals include a partnership with Eurosport for '3D sports video', and Aardman Animations for a series of Shaun the Sheep short movies. In the UK, Sky is also providing short-form 3D content.
As previously revealed, the device will have two screens, with one of them offering 3D visuals without the need for special glasses.
The 3DS will also offer two different wireless connectivity features. StreetPass will let users exchange game data with one another, while SpotPass will enable them to connect to public hot-spots and home Wi-Fi networks.

The 3DS will also be able to shoot 3D photos with its two outer cameras; play music and surf the web. The device will also come with 'AR cards' for augmented reality features, which can be tapped into by game developers.
More than 30 games will be released for 3DS between its launch and the E3 show in early June.
