Nielsen buys content market watcher Telephia

Nielsen has acquired the mobile market research firm Telephia for an undisclosed sum.

The deal comes three weeks after Nielsen unveiled Nielsen Wireless, to assess and measure mobile content. Nielsen, which is best known as an auditor of TV ratings, said that the transaction is being made as part of its strategy to expand measurement services across all media platforms.

Telephia is well known to the content biz. It tracks general subscriber numbers, usage rates for rich media mobile products and also conducts consumer satisfaction surveys.
It has over 100 clients in the US, Canada and Europe.

Earlier this week Telephia revealed that the US mobile TV and video revenues hit $146 million in 1Q 2007. It added that this represented year on year growth of 198 per cent.
